These records include "Transcripts of the Hearings" in fifteen bound volumes with a three-volume index. The exhibits include the formal reports which document the government contract work that the Du Pont Company did during the First World War. Also included are minutes of the Munitions Board and a history of government powder plant construction at "Old Hickory" written by Pierre S. du Pont. Correspondence between the Du Pont Company and the United States government describes wartime munitions needs and the procurement process.

Steelmaking began in 1903 and by 1909 the City of Lackawanna had been established around the steel plant.
